Total Strength = 15

Things to bring
- Money
- Jersey top
- Jersey bottom
- Long Socks
- Shin Guards
- Football boots
- Ball (for warm up)

That should be all for the details of the upcoming match. It will be the last match until after mid October so that we can focus on our studies for end of year exam. Wei Ian have some concert to attend and cant make it. Chien Ming have some drum lesson from 3.30pm to 4pm. He would rush down from orchard to West View to catch the second half.

Secondly, as mentioned above, we are still in negotiation with a talented school mate of ours in SJI to join our team. When he is in top form in street soccer, he can stop all shots. Diving, rushing out and great positional play are his qualities. One problem is his kicks. They are not powerful and so goalkicks would not be taken by him. However, it is not comfirm yet because we have not test trial him on field. He should be taking no. 1 jersey, maybe even long sleeve with his name Ting Soon above it. This will be comfirmed at a later date.

Thirdly, Cashew Cavaliers have a few unhappy players in their team. Reason= muds. So, the captain, Glenn of their team suggested to join our team, bringing along about 4 of his players and even sponsorship to our team. Their team is sponsored by their constituency and they dun have to pay a single cent being in a team. If he joins us, we would not have to pay anything for matches, and our home ground will be West View Primary. Our team name may also have to be changed. Also, this is not comfirmed, we will wait till the match is over and we will negotiate.

Ok, done with what I'm suppose to say. Will update if anything else happens. Might even update the new formation and players for the match later.

Preparation for match on 1/9

Jeremy is supposed to blog this, but he isn't able to go online, so I shall have the honour to type this.

New formation : 4-3-3

Strikers Kovan Zi Xiang Wei Ian

Midfield Jethro Jeremy Kamil

Def. Lucas Ying Lun Chien Ming Daryl

G.K. Jun Jie

Subs : Zi Han, Terence,Shawn,Reuben,Kevin

Kovan : His position in his CCK school team is Left wing, so he shall stick to his usual position.
Zi Xiang : Natural goalscorer, uses left leg. He will play Center Forward.
Wei Ian : Speedy and superb acceleration.Shots are powerful and good crosses. Therefore he shall be the Right Wing
Jethro : Has the stamina for a Left Midfield position. Full of tricks.
Jeremy : Captain, i think best player. Creative and accurate shots. Center Midfield suits him.
Kamil : Never really seen him play to his best, but he can hold the ball and dribble. Has the speed to run pass many people. His position is Right Midfield.
Lucas : Very steady and calm. Tackles are sharp but his can improve on his clearance.Uses left leg, hence, Left Back.
Ying Lun : Thats me, Jeremy : "You are tall and can header. You can tackle, so you should be alongside Ming in defence as a Left Center Back"
Chien Ming : Produces the best headers in our team. A wall in defence and solid tackles. His size will scare the opponent. Will be in his usual Right Center Back position
Daryl : Sometimes defend brilliantly, most of the time cancels the opponents attack. Great stamina (people always attack from his flank). He will be our Right Back.
Jun Jie : Goalkeeper.

Instuctions from Captain:

1] Ying Lun (me), is going to be the leader in defence. I will call you to man-mark the opponent, fall-back, push forward...etc... When i say : "Number 10 (jeremy), mark Glenn!" He will shout : "I've got Glenn!", say that just to confirm that you had listened to my instructions. He is going to stick to him until their attack breaks down. Remember NOT to argue during the match about my decisions. If you think my decision is stupid, tell me and correct me.

2]Reuben and Shawn are not in the starting XI and will warm the bench. I will tell you why in school.

Updated positions

Just an update of the players in our team as Ying Lun suggested me to do so. Currently we have 17 players. Andy still out injured, leaving 16 available. Which is good, meaning 11 starting, 5 subs. The ideal number for an official match. Below is the 'table' of who plays what as number 1 postition in a match.

No. Player Position Exact Position

4 Zi Han Midfielder Left wing

5 Terence Defender Right back

6 Zi Xiang Striker Right forward

7 Shawn Striker Right / Centre forward

8 Daryl Defender Right / Centre back

9 Reuben Defender Centre / Left back

10 Jeremy Midfielder Centre attacking

11 Ying Lun Midfielder Centre defensive

12 Jun Jie Goalkeeper Between posts (DUH)

13 Kevin Striker Left/ Right forward

14 Kovan Striker Left forward

16 Kamil Midfielder Right/ Left Winger

17 Lucas Defender Left/ Centre back

18 Wei Ian Midfielder Centre attacking

20 Andy Defender Full back [OUT FOR 2 MONTHS since long time ago]

21 Jethro Midfielder Centre attacking

22 Chien Ming Defender Centre back

6 defenders, 6 midfielders, 4 strikers in their primary positions.

Below is the list for the secondary positions. (second choice/ alternative position)

No. Player Exact Position

4 Zi Han Centre forward

5 Terence Right wing

6 Zi Xiang Goalkeeper

7 Shawn Centre defensive midfield

8 Daryl Right wing

9 Reuben Right/ Left wing

10 Jeremy Centre forward

11 Ying Lun Goalkeeper

12 Jun Jie Centre defensive midfield

13 Kevin Centre attacking midfield

14 Kovan Goalkeeper

16 Kamil Fullback

17 Lucas Left wing

18 Wei Ian Goalkeeper

20 Andy Goalkeeper

21 Jethro Centre forward

22 Chien Ming Goalkeeper

As you can observe, there are many of us who can play as goalkeeper and in midfield. But not many can be in defence, proving how difficult it is to have the qualities of a defender. I think many will start to flame me again for my opinion but it is just my opinion and you can post your opinion also. Now we just have to concentrate on our first win after being thrashed twice. Special thanks to captain jeremy and ying lun for the effort to find opponents to train us to match fitness.

Bukit Timah 26/8 Part2

Okay after the training and match today i went to get contacts from 2 erhhmmm "beatable" teams i saw playing at Regent Sec. Okay the first one is called Team Sapphires-Predominatntly Indian with most members sec2. Their kit is all blue-think Chelsea (XD). The second team is named Team Khalifah, yes they are a muslim team with their age grp 14-15 years of age and also no racism pls. We should be able to beat both teams comfortably as I have seen them in action and judging from our encouraging performance against the Brazillians this afternoon(keep it up guys)!!! We will win if we play with confidence(important).
In conclusion we have 4 teams to play against in the near future after adding Team Bumblebees and Brazillian Soccer Schools to our list of probable opponents.

Jeremy(C)

Bukit Timah 26/8

Today was OK.Everything went to plan. I was happy about the attack VS defence thing.
Anyway, we played against Brazilian Soccer School Today and lost 6-1.

We gained experience. So everytime we have someone who wants to challenge us, accept it. Don't be afraid that we might lose, or they are too big sized. See how well we played today, an improvement compared to when we were playing against SJI XI. Defence was less shaky, strikers now get to do something and most important, throw ins, goal kicks have improved. We even managed to score 1 goal. We earned a couple of corners, and made the opponents offside a few times, i think twice. Thats how much we have improved. By the way, some of us had just came back from the OBS camp, so we were dead off-form and cannot kick ball. We have to stop blaming people for their mistakes. I shall TRY to stop scolding Daryl.

Some changes to the team formations and positions. Lucas, our new player, shall play alongside with Chien Ming, 2 Center backs. Right back will be Daryl, Left back shall be Reuben. Now, we shall have a 5 men midfield. Me (YingLun) shall be stripped off his right wing/flank position and now play center defensive midfield. Jeremy shall stick to his center attacking midfield. Since we have so many people who can play wing, people like Wei Ian, Zi Han, Jethro and Kamil (he's good!), some of them shall be on the bench ready to be subbed in during a match. 3 permenant strikers, in my opinion, Kovan should be supporting striker and Zi Xiang or Shawn the main striker. Kovan can switch with shawn also.

By the way, Kamil is good! So, he will most likely be joining our team. He shall be wearing the number 16. This team shall stop being racist when Kamil joins. He is a Indian-Muslim. So stop your pork, FA and halal jokes.

Jeremy - Please update on the contacts we have recieved
Daryl - Please update the player positions, and give a colour for each position, like what you did for the previous post.
All - Please blog about your views of the match

ReuBeN |

Alright. Another match coming up on 2nd September.
This team is my guitar club's friend's team.
He's Sec2

Team name: Cashew CHC
Venue of match: West View Primary School (Shawn's sch)
Costs of booking of field: FREE!
Ref.: Not confirmed yet.

This team are being sponsored by their constituency, Cashew. Or Bukit Panjang. Watever...
So, they can use the field at the primary school for free and have top priorities to use it.

They want us to hire ref. and of cuz, split the cost between the 2 teams lah.
But Daryl say dun want, cuz very expensive. (Really? You'll be standing there until u tell me the truth)

And 1 more thing.... The match gotta be in the afternoon cuz field not open in morning.

Wat time do u guys want?

Tag or sms or call captain/vice-captain/me...

Changes...

My suggestions.
1: Book the field for trainings. Would you rather get chased out and waste your whole morning/afternoon looking for a field or just pay $2 each to settle at Dempsey for at least 2hours and train properly?
2: During training, do specific tasks. Strikers will train the goalkeepers while the midfielders and the defenders work together.
3: We need 2 brave ppl to step and and train to be #1, a rugged no-nonsense defender that ends opponent's careers and #2, a reliable goalkeeper that can save well, doesn't panic or lose concentration and can pump the ball FAR.
4: We need more trainings to gel the team together.

Latest news. Kamil may join the team on "loan" to replace Andy till next year. There's gonna be a match in the Sep hols, against Reuben's guitar mates.
Lets all wait for news of confirmation optimistically...

Learn from our mistakes

I agree with ying lun, but not totally. Facing the firing squad is different from being the firing squad or standing WITH the firing squad. Especially if the squad is one with all guns blazing. Defending and attacking is totally different. As Shawn said, a defender making a mistake can result in a goal that cost the team, but an attacker making a mistake would not be blamed much. I dun think anyone and I mean anyone in the team can blame the defence. It was not as easy as you think to defend against the opposition we faced yesterday.

In the beginning they gave us respect, did not attack as much, with their back 3 or 4 still intact. But after conceding the first goal (my mistake), they thought, maybe it wasn’t that difficult to beat us. So, they poured men forward to pressurize us. I think Chien Ming said or someone in the team said that when they attacked us, there were only 2 defenders back in their own half, and those were 2 midfielders no one in the back line. What does that mean??? 8 strikers?!!!!! How can 4 inexperienced defenders counter 8 attackers???!!! Impossible. Even a central defensive partnership of John Terry and Fabio Cannavaro would never stop them.

I salute Jethro even though none of us played well. He tried his best to mark his man (I think Nicholas) for a while I thought where was Nicholas? He didn’t even touch the ball. That was how good the marking was. Also, Shawn and Jeremy. They were the most creative in our team. Made the best chances but to no avail. The rest let them down. I must emphasize it was not the defence fault. Even though a few times, defenders make mistakes, Reuben said no one is perfect. Every one make mistakes. Of course is true. If you dun make mistakes ever, you are not a human being.

The 8 vs 4 was crazy. Even then, counter attacking was one way we could have beaten them and counter attack not by using long balls that never crossed the halfway line. By using the wings. We should remain composed and calm. And not shout ‘Clear! Clear!’. By clearing ineffectively made things worse. When we clear upfield, they pick the ball up and attack, then we clear again, they attack again, clear again, they attack again and by the time we managed to clear the umpteen time, they would have 10 men in our penalty box, waiting for their chance to shout ‘ My goal!’ I was surprised we managed to hold them off for 90 minutes. 5 goals in 90 minutes meant 1 goal per 18 min. And it meant we were clearing the ball time after time for 18 min before they scored a goal and it started over again. All we needed was some one composed enough to hold the ball, look for some one in space ( no one was) on the wings sprint like mad and try to cut in to shoot or cross and we would have a goal. That simple. No one dared to hold the ball. No one was in space. When one of us ran down the flank with the ball, almost their whole team responded by moving nearer to the person with the ball. He just had to pass the ball back, pass it around midfield, and we would gain ground and composure again. But nothing of that sort happened. Coz when we attacked, we cheong like hell with no aim or skill to their goal and then lose the ball being outnumbered again. We should either shoot or pass to someone in space.

After each goal we concede, it was the opportunity for us to do some passing but the strikers like Kovan tried to solo through 11 people in their own half. Is it possible? Not against such a team. That’s why when professional teams, after kicking off, pass to the midfield or defence. Let your team mates touch the ball, get the feel, force opponents to come and pressurize, open up and there we have, SPACE to move into and the chance to tired them out comes.

Whatever it is, we have to work on…
1. Power [ to take goalkicks that would not ram back to opponents and clearance that would cross the halfway line]
2. Positional play [ finding a position near your teammate so that he can pass to you to receive the ball to support]
3. Skill [ to gain the confidence to hold the ball and wait for team mates to find space]
4. Heading [ get the first touch before it touches the ground to gain possession]

There were some times when Jeremy and Kovan had the chance to shoot right outside the box. That was the chance for us to score. That was when all the ball ramming sessions we had came into play. We specialize in shooting from there! Why no one shot? Instead chose to pass around their box that had suddenly so many dcefenders and then lose possession. When you have the chance, just shoot, we were already desperate. Adding more statistics, we had 0 shots on target, 0 corners, 0 freekicks near their box, 1 shot that went way off from halfway line all these result in 0 goals. Expected. It’s not that I want anyone to blame themselves, I emphasize it was not the defence fault, their attack was too good. Our attack need practice. This is still our first match. We need experience and learn from our mistakes. And we got the experience and now know what went wrong. I would not be playing soccer for another about 6 or 7 weeks. Only allowed to play after exams if get good grades so I think some of you also think we should stop for a while to do what we are suppose to do at this age- study. Hence, I would not be going for any match or training, but study and learn from our mistakes then continue training what we have to and win our first match.

Devastated

Incredible scoreline, 0-5.
We had home advantage.
We were tactical.
We were expected to at least score 1 goal.

All these, useless.
Because of :
Nervousness
Low morale
No team spirit
No tolerace
No patience

Major mistakes we made. Ranked according to how serious it is. No offence, please.

1st. Goal Kicks. Me, Ming, Jun Jie. Useless at goal kicks. Our goal kicks can't even penetrate their 1st line of defence, their strikers. Worst still, Ming, low ball goal kick. Even if we had kicked so soft and cover little distance, MIDFIELDERS, don't just leave a big gap and stand at attacking positions. Please go back to your positions and receive it. for the WHOLE of the 2nd half, all our goal kicks landed in the opponent's legs. Dropkicks are ok. We just lost possession like that, so simple.

2nd. High balls. Defenders. 1 interesting phenomenon that i always see happening to every of our team members. When the opponent pass/clear/dropkick, a high ball. Then, you think you are in the PERFECT position to collect it. BUT, you don't dare to head it 1st time, as the impact will cause pain to your head. So, you don even move back, and let the ball bounce over you. Amazing.

3th. Tackles. Defenders. Do not charge for it. Tricky opponents are always your worst nightmare, but they actually ain't that bad. You just got to stick with him, but retreat instead of committing. If you charge at them, the just do a simple trick and get pass you, YOU ARE BEATEN. But full backs, don retreat until the goalpost, and try to block their shots instead of getting the ball, i think that should work.

4th. Mentality and Morale. ALL. Kovan and Jeremy was right. We went into the match with a 'sure lose' mentality. That greatly affects your performance. Look at me, i cannot decide whether to pass or to dribble. I was just too scared of the opponent, and it applies to some other people. Letting in a goal lowerers the team morale. But try to think it as its still 0-0.

5th. CLEARANCE. ALL. i must stress on this. Do not take your time to clear. Please, and do not (ever) drible near the box. ITS DANGEROUS. Ming, was taking forever to clear. Even if we cleared it, it always always always gets to the opponent. Plus, clearance out of the box TOWARDS the opponent's goal post should be high. If under pressure, you should just kick out for a throw in, or worst if no choice, corner. DON HESITATE TO CLEAR.

Everyone makes mistakes. And nobody is perfect.
I not saying i didn't make any, in fact i made tons of mistakes.
So, don't think that i am trying to act pro by typing all the mistakes.

And one more thing, feel free to blog our own view of the match on 8/8.
AND! Forget what i said after the match, it was totally crazy, it just came out from my mouth and it seemed inevitable.

I need to go for counselling. Thats for sure.

DON BE DEMORALISED! AT LEAST WE ATTACKED!!!

Zi Han you have to play if not we only left with one sub too tiring ald... Kthx

Jeremy(C)

Some info for the match

Some really bad news. According to jeremy, zi han is injured. He is still going for the match but not playing. I dunno how bad it is but cant play means it is bad. Maybe if desperately need to take some one off then bring him in. I really dunno. Must wait until tue then access his condition. Crap. Where s the physio?

Another piece of uncertain bad news. Lucas might not be going due to CCA commitments. This is not comfirmed and there is still some hope he might go. Why must our new signings all screw up?! Esp lefties. Hiya. oh ya btw if you didnt know striker zi xiang has by now left for malayasia on holiday and will be back on thurs. so he will not be at the mtach on tue. sad news. clinical and the only true striker who can head will force us to change our tactics.

This para might shock some who read this. But it is sort of a new signing. Kevin i think some of you might ald hear before as he played at dempsey once voluntarily joined the team. I m not sure he is the permanent signing as he may just get the jersey and zhao. I dunno again. Even so, he is taking no. 13 jersey. Some info abt him...

Abt 170cm + tall
Quite tan
CCA = swimming
Usual position= striker
Dominant foot= right

after the CCAB training, we went to order jersey for 2 of our new signings- Zi Han and Kevin. If Lucas CMI on Tue, we need kevin due to the shortage of people. But sadly, he is not in the starting XI as there is no position for him to play in because we shld pioritise and let the older members play.

Btw, we hired the referee for the match ald. it s the same one for the fake match last time- kovan's fav ref. Whatever it is, ying lun bargained the price to $50. i dunno whether the opponents will pay but we will just ask the ref to get the money from them. who cares. i think for this match, we just get everyone to pay a standard price. like $5. and every match pay $5. it will be enough to pay for the field and ref. the leftover will be added to the team fund. after maybe 3 or 4 matches, the team fund would be enough to cover the expenditure of 1 match. (not sure you can calculate out yourself) but if you get the idea then if will solve money conflicts.

Like what ying lun said, future trainings will be ideally at CCAB along bukit timah road near botanical gardens. it is also near dempsey. FYI, CCAB stands for co-curricular activities branch
and it used to be old NUS campus. it has many sporting facilities like field, track, street soccer courts, hockey pitch etc. can even hold our matches there as there is a grand stand so that there will be 'amazed' spectators watching 'skills' displyed. but i think it will be more expensive, so see how.

Abt the upcoming match, tue, 8th August, 1pm.

After analysing the opponent's squad, i have come up with their most probable formation and line up. their captain, nicholas, told yl the starting XI and as he has posted earlier it is...

Hannan- GK
Satish- RB
Ruzaini- CB
Bo Yang- CB
Rahim- LB
Nige- RM
Hilmi- CM
Jeremy- LM
Rudy- RF
Brandon- LF
Nicholas- ST

there is only one sub we know and it is Nabhan from our class. should be a CM and might play if one of the starting XI dun go. most likely is that they will just last minute say you, and you play there and not fix a formation but if they decide to thrash us then of course they will organise. as you can see, their players fit the most probable formation 4-3-2-1 or known as Christmas Tree. this is threatening to the CBs as it will penetrate the centre of the park through passing and skillful movement. they have skills but no team work so we have a bit of advantage. as a result, i think adding at least one CDM would help the CBs. Ying Lun is playing keeper on that day, Jun Jie play the CDM. i dun think it might be very suitable to post formations here but i think 4-1-3-1-1 is the best that fits our XI. if it screws up when Lucas cmi then 3-2-2-2-1 is second best compared to 3-1-3-2-1. what ever it is, on tue be there early then we will announce that plans. chien ming will be there to tell you how to counter their moves. he knows best.

to prevent last minute preparation, i can slightly analyse what i know here...

GK- Hannan- Not the best, but still cut out to be a GK comfirm beatable.
RB- Satish- Slow, big size, but lot s of power in kicks. might even score from halfway line. yl watch out!
CB- Ruzaini- Probably the most aggresive and rough player on the field. slide and push like no body's business. 80% will get a booking. our strikers watch out!
CB- Bo Yang- Skillful, strong in the air. Not the natural CB but an overall good player
LB-Rahim- not the agressive player but good with both feet. disadvantage with height. might not go for the match at all.
CM-Hilmi- Creative and skillful. Calm and composed.
RF-Rudy-Arguably the best player in SJI. Hardly anyone can get the ball off him. Most likely gotta get some one to man mark him dun even let him touch the ball.
LF-Brandon- Another nut case. No look passes, skillful turning, tricks, oles, feints etc. Just so good on the ball. But can get it off him if concentrate and predict his move or do it the hard way.
ST-Nicholas- Dribbling not so good. but shots are out of this world. his right foot is every goal keeper's night mare. His power packed shots can blast someone off his line. I experienced that before. ouch. can shoot with left foot but lack power. just have to not let him have a clear shot on goal and we will have him settled.

i left abt 3 players out cuz i did not see them play before and cannot analyse. chien ming will tell you in detail on tue.

thats all for now. be prepared facing some real pros.

CCAB 5/8

Trainings will take place at CCAB street soccer court now.

Advantages :
Get to VS other teams. More pro than us, eg: SAJC
Drinks stall near by, i LOVE the bangla
NOT so ULU
Buses all over the place

Disadvantages:
Might have some event there taking place
Might have a lot of ppl there during weekends
Might get chased out (1%)

OK! TODAY:

People who went:
Jeremy
Ying Lun
Jun Jie
Daryl
Reuben
Chien Ming

Today was fun. It was hot and the floor or the street soccer court was like ... burning.
We played against some SAJC students + Army. We had a guy called Daniel in our team. Very pro. We played 7 v 7 . 1st half 1-0 we lead. 2nd half started without me and jeremy as we went SPC to buy drinks. Anyway it was like 4-3 or 3-3. In the end we won. I am sure most of us got blisters under feet. Hope it recovers by by Tuesday. Then the day ended off with a disappointing lost to ACJC students by 3-1.

THE TEAM:
WO = WATCH OUT!!!
Nicholas (326) ST = WO!!!
Rahim(326)MF
Hilmi(325) ??
Ruzaini(326)DF
Hannan(325)GK i think
Rudy(326)ST/MF = WO!!!
Satish(322)DF
Jeremy Tan(210)MF = WO!!!
Bo Yang(322)DF = WO!!!
Brandon(323)MF

Look at their team, it jsut gives me the creeps.

What each memeber are supposed to do :

Ying : Get the opponents and tell them the details.
